This Oscar winning movie is truly an epic, difficult to watch and once watched will remain in your memory, haunting you of cruelty men are capable of. It is based on the true story of Solon Northup, a free black man sold into slavery in the 1840s. This movie is an adaptation of his 1853 book called Twelve Years a Slave.

Solomon Northup, a free black man from New York, is abducted and sold into slavery and his journey through the cruel and horrific world of slave trade and slavery is captured amazingly. Facing cruelty as well as glimpses of unexpected kindness, Solomon struggles not only to stay alive, but to retain his dignity. In the twelfth year of his slavery, Solomon’s chance meeting with a Canadian abolitionist changes his destiny. His love and desire to get back to his wife and children keeps him going without giving up. But does he ever meet them again? Watch to find out.
