The Descendants- Movie Review

Starring: AnnaSophia Robb, Dennis Quaid, Helen Hunt and Carrie Underwood.

Rich, complacent and indulgent Lawyer, Matt King (George Clooney), one day wakes up to find his easy life turned topsy turvy by challenges, responsibilities and problems. His wife met with an accident and is in a coma and now he has to be more than just “a back-up parent” that he was earlier, to his two daughters, a vulnerable 10 year old and a rebellious 17 year old.

He is a very senior member of a large family in HAWAII and is now being coaxed by his cousins and relatives to sell the property. To add salt to the sore wound, he discovers that his wife had been cheating on him with a local real estate agent. At the heart of the movie lies Matt’s attempt to reconnect with his daughters. This movie adapted from a novel by the same name, written by Kaui Hart Hemmings is about family relationships. How it’s never too late for one to start afresh in one’s relationships and how one needs to forgive to move ahead. “The Descendants” won the Oscar for Best adapted Screen Play.

A good watch with your family.
