“Gifted Hands- the Ben Carson Story” is the true life story of Dr. Ben Carson, the world famous Neurosurgeon who, for the first time in the world, performed a successful operation on Siamese twins from Germany. The movie delves deep into Ben’s difficult childhood. Being an African American, brought up by a single mother, he had to deal with prejudices, racism and his own demons. Ben’s mother, despite her own health problem becomes a driving force behind her children encouraging them to put in their best.
After listening to the story of a missionary doctor, Ben decides to become a doctor. The rest of the story shows how Dr. Ben, despite his failures and difficulties, became a doctor and then a world famous neurosurgeon who goes on to devise a practical method to separate conjoined twins successfully. This is one of the best made-for- television movies ever produced. The message of this movie is that by focusing on God’s will for your life you can become the very best you can be and be God’s agent in ministering to others.
The movie beautifully portrays how Ben dealt with his personal demons, losses and grief with the help of his faith in God. A very inspirational movie both for adults as well as kids. One piece of advice though, make sure you keep a packet of tissues near you as this movie will surely melt even the strongest heart!!
