“The Dream Giver” is an inspirational book that is a fictional story in the first half with a reflective second half on pursuing your own dreams. The first half was what really got my attention. The story of “Ordinary,” who wants to pursue his dream and is willing to leave his life in the “Land of Familiar” and move beyond his comfort zone was eye-opening. How often I have settled for the familiar comfortable place instead of pursuing the dream that is out in the unknown! The book takes you along Ordinary’s path through all the obstacles he goes through to reach his dream.
Ordinary meets Faith along his path, as well as giants. The story really is the story of any of us who have a dream that refuses to die. We all have dreams and if we’re willing to take a risk and overcome some obstacles, we can and do get past them to move closer and closer to our dreams. This book puts forth that we all have dreams (dreams that get pushed aside or ignored or forgotten), dreams always there waiting to become reality! And, if you don’t pursue your big dream, something very important in life is missed out. Another thought is that the journey toward your big dream changes you. In so many ways it’s about the journey and not the destination.
The second half is more a resource to help you work through your own dreams and giants, which is for people who like self-help tools. For me, the story was sufficient to chew on and apply. In summary, The Dream Giver is a small, simple and easy to read book that puts forth profound thoughts challenging us to not settle for the ordinary good but go after the extraordinary best that awaits us
