Finding Purpose

FM Jan 2013

What is your life’s purpose? At the start of the New Year, Family Mantra takes a look at demystifying this very seemingly philosophical question.

Happy New Year! Are you looking forward to this New Year? Excited about being back at work? Energized and ready for the coming year? If you are, that’s great. You are happy with where you are in life and content with your circumstances. Not all of us seem to be the same way. How often have you heard someone say, ‘I hate my job’, ‘I don’t know why I am here’, ‘I wish I could do something more with my life, something meaningful.’

What is your life’s purpose? At the start of the New Year, Family Mantra takes a look at demystifying this very seemingly philosophical question. We have featured stories of people who have searched for the answer. They share their journey and tell us how they realigned their life to what they realized they were created for, their life purpose. ‘You were made for a reason’ and ‘Exercise your right to change’ are inspirational journeys of self-discovery and search for meaning.

Whether you choose change in your life or it is thrust upon you, it is still a struggle. ‘Challenging Change’ shows us how being equipped to change can help us deal with it with ease.

Our expert counselor answers your questions on how to cope with different kinds of change. When talking of realigning your life to your purpose, we cannot but talk of First things First by Steven R. Covey. A book that inspires us to bridge the gap many of us feel between the ways we spend our time and what is important to us.

Remember the weeks before your wedding? You diligently planned your day, changed your schedule at the last minute and utilized every opportunity to be with your fiancé. How much time do you spend with each other now, other than talking about household chores? The ‘Marriage Mantra’ column talks about how when it comes to spending time with your spouse Quality comes from Quantity.

Our parenting column gives insight into how to raise children to be socially responsible and care about the world around them. The problem of the ‘generation gap’ repeats itself generation after generation. Is there a way of bridging what appears to be this wide rift? Read our ‘My Opinion’ column to find out.
